ET - CLASSIC EDDY CURRENT TESTING

Examination using electromagnetic method of eddy current is very popular thanks to its universal possibilities. One of the applications is the checking of heating pipelines of various exchangers in facilities. The inspection focuses on the condition of newly installed pipes, and during their operation. By comparing the results after certain period of operation with the initial condition it is possible to determine the trends and predicts life span of the piping.

ET (eddy current testing) can be used solely on non-magnetic materials, such as brass, copper, titanium, austenitic steel etc. for duplex steels it is necessary to apply pre-magnetisation. In general, the magnetic materials are tested by other methods, e.g. RFT, MFL, or IRIS.

Another possibility of utilisation of eddy current is the use of pick up coils of different sizes to check surfaces for cracks and other defects communicating with the surface, or defects located near the surface.
